Promoting young talent at world champion level

DMG MORI has been underlining the importance of promoting young talent with its commitment to WorldSkills, the world championship of professions, for almost two decades. What once began as support as the main sponsor is now a global partnership with the aim of inspiring and empowering Young people and providing them with a stage to showcase their skills. DMG MORI also acted as a sponsor at the recent EuroSkills competition in Denmark. The latest German Championships in CNC turning at EMO 2025 in Hanover are another impressive example of how DMG MORI is paving the way for the next generation with technology, expertise, and enthusiasm, accompanying them on their journey to the World Championships in Shanghai in 2026.
Support through technology and expertise
DMG MORI supports the traditional educational event with a large machine portfolio, technical support, and preparatory courses for the young competitors. The CTX 350 V4 has proven to be the ideal turning center because it meets the requirements of the industry. It is designed for a wide range of components, enables efficient complete machining thanks to an optional counter spindle, and can be easily automated. In addition, it offers modern, intuitive operation via the app-based CELOS X manufacturing platform. However, the commitment to WorldSkills goes beyond the provision of innovative competition machines. “It's more about the exchange of knowledge and the concrete promotion of the participants,” explains Boris Satarov, technical trainer at the DMG MORI Academy and national expert and state trainer for WorldSkills Germany.
From training to the preliminary round of the German Championship
Back in March and April 2025, DMG MORI trained young talent from renowned companies, including Airbus Helicopters Germany, Festo, and Paul Horn, on the CTX 350 V4 at its Geretsried site: “The focus was on efficient programming (CAD/CAM), setup, and operation of the turning center,” says Boris Satarov. The six best participants from the subsequent preliminary rounds, which took place in June and July, competed for the title of German Champion at EMO 2025. “And thus, also for nomination for the upcoming World Championship in Shanghai,” adds the national coach. Daniel Meyr, from Airbus Helicopters Germany, won the national competition with 72.59 points. Second and third place went to Matthias Pollaschek, also from Airbus Helicopters Germany, and Silas Ferlemann from the WINDMÖLLER & HÖLSCHER Academy, with 57.45 and 55.37 points respectively. “All three have the opportunity to continue their training at the DMG MORI Academy in preparation for the World Championship in CNC turning,” explains Boris Satarov. “During this time, we will decide who will best represent Germany at WorldSkills in Shanghai.”
Technically fit for machining transformation (MX)
“Our commitment to WorldSkills is much more than just sponsorship – it is a decisive contribution to motivating and promoting young talent, further developing vocational training, and ensuring the future viability of the industry,” emphasizes Boris Satarov, referring to DMG MORI's strategic orientation. A key topic is Machining Transformation (MX), which paves the way for the future of manufacturing. “The pillars of this concept – Process Integration, Automation, Digital Transformation (DX), and Green Transformation (GX) – will accompany young talents and their colleagues throughout their lives.” This makes it all the more important to familiarize young people with such technologies at an early stage. This is where the goals of DMG MORI and WorldSkills converge, as traditional apprenticeship professions continue to form the backbone of entire industries. WorldSkills is the perfect platform to convey precisely this importance, according to Boris Satarov: “The effort that the participants put in and the enthusiasm they show for the competition confirm to us that this commitment pays off in the long term.”
